North Hutchinson Island is divided into two counties, Indian River and St. Lucie County. Although it is not a separate island, the Indian River county portion of North Hutchinson Island that extends to the Sebastian Inlet is also known as “Orchid Island”. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean on the east and the Indian River on the west, there are miles of beautiful, sandy beaches to enjoy with many free public beach access.
Stretching 21 miles from the Fort Pierce Inlet to the North to Stuart Beach in the South, South Hutchinson Island features miles of pristine beach access, premiere waterfront living and resort and condominium life for those who love to indulge in both warm weather activity and beach relaxation. Named for the Spanish Land Grantee James Hutchinson, the barrier island has a rich history of shipwrecks and exploration. The offshore shipwrecks and natural reefs make it ideal for snorkeling and diving. Many beaches have full service facilities including dining, showers, picnicking, playgrounds and more all while offering FREE parking.
